Jian Jun XI started to work with performance art in China as early as in 1986, and has since then been active as a performance artist.
Xi graduated from Goldsmiths College, University of London. Over the years he have also developed an extensive collaboration with Cai Yuan. Both artists became famous for the 1999 ‘intervention’ with Tracey Emin’s work My Bed (1999).
Xi and Cai have been working together since that time producing radically political works that intervene in various contemporary political narratives and belief systems. Jianjun Xi participated in November/December 2012 in Guangzhou Live.
The artist is also engaged in the development of performance art in China and has started several projects as to promote the stigmatized art form and reach a larger audience. Like the initiative, www.chinaliveart.com.
